Sighs Cottage is situated on the eastern side of Witney in West Oxfordshire. Witney has a long attractive High Street which runs from the 17th Century Butter Cross to the river Windrush. Once over the river it becomes Bridge Street (A4095). Sighs Cottage is part of one of the oldest buildings in the middle of Bridge Street. (RHS coming from Oxford, LHS from town centre/Burford)
Sighs Cottage is next door (RHS) to the Piano Showroom. The entrance is under the archway which gives protection from the elements and the road, a dark green door on the left hand side.
The cottage is fully furnished and very well equipped and comfortable. The cottage is only available to non smokers and not suitable for children or pets.
Downstairs there is an entrance hall, a lounge/dining room with varnished floor boards and woodburning stove and a small well equipped kitchen. There is also an upright fridge/freezer, microwave, small TV, video and radio/CD player.
Upstairs there is one double bedroom with large built in wardrobe and a bathroom with enamelled cast iron bath with mixer-tap hose. There is plenty of hot water.
Electricity and heating, provided by storage and oil filled radiators, is included in the rental charge for the cottage. A starter basket of logs, paper and firelighters are provided for the wood burning stove.
The staircase to the first floor has a narrow tread; please do take care when descending.
There is no garden. There is a Coop newsagent a few doors from the cottage. Witney has several restaurants, many pubs, churches, a library, cafes, bistros, take-aways, three supermarkets (one is Waitrose) general shops, a small cinema and leisure centre and many other amenities all within walking distance of the cottage. The bus stop for Oxford is up on Newland/Oxford Hill by the sports ground.
There is a parking place for Sighs Cottage, with permit, available in Granger’s Place, a cul-de-sac on the same side as the cottage about 200 metres towards town. There is street parking right outside the cottage (limited to 30 mins between 8am-6pm Mon-Sat). Please do not park under the archway outside the cottage door.

Sighs cottage is probably 300 years old. It retains some original features and has been renovated with care to provide warm and comfortable accommodation. Situated near the town centre of Witney, it is part of what was the original farmhouse that established Bridge Street. As Witney spread across the river the building was surrounded by Victorian cottages, woollen mills, and Georgian houses. Factory buildings and more recent industries were built on the farm land. The rear barn was used as a saddler’s workshop and has only recently become residential. Bridge Street was the main A40 Fishguard to London road and, having now been bypassed, is the A4095. The cottage is ideally situated for access on foot to the town’s very many amenities and the regular bus service to Oxford and the Cotswolds.
